Coreopsis grandiflora ‘Early Sunrise’, also known as Tickseed, is a bright and cheerful flowering perennial that produces an abundance of rich yellow flowers over a long flowering period. It is an excellent choice for flower borders, cottage gardens, containers and pollinator-friendly planting.
The plant forms a neat clump of finely divided green foliage, with upright stems topped by ruffled, semi-double golden-yellow flowers around 5cm across. The flowers appear from late spring through to late summer, providing a long-lasting display of vibrant colour.
Growing to approximately 40–50cm in height, ‘Early Sunrise’ is well suited to the front or middle of a sunny border, and looks particularly effective when planted in groups. Its compact habit also makes it a good choice for patio containers and smaller gardens.
Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Although often grown as an annual in the UK, it can behave as a short-lived perennial in suitable conditions, particularly when planted in a sheltered, well-drained position.
The bright yellow flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies, making ‘Early Sunrise’ a useful addition to a wildlife-friendly garden.
