Rhododendron ‘Horizon Monarch’

Rhododendron ‘Horizon Monarch’ is a magnificent evergreen shrub valued for its large leathery foliage and spectacular display of unusual, beautifully coloured flowers. It is an excellent choice for woodland-style gardens, mixed borders, specimen planting and containers.

Growing to approximately 2 metres in height, it develops an attractive bushy habit with leathery, dark green leaves reaching up to around 18cm long, providing excellent year-round colour and structure.

From late spring into early summer, impressive upright trusses of fifteen or more dark pink buds open to reveal large, funnel-shaped flowers up to around 10cm across. The flowers are particularly striking, with pale warm yellow interiors marked with small pink flares, while the outside of the blooms is a delicate pale pink.

The large flower trusses create a spectacular focal point and contrast beautifully with the dark evergreen foliage.

Plant in partial shade in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Ericaceous compost is recommended when planting, particularly in containers or where the existing soil is not naturally acidic. Avoid alkaline or lime-rich soils, as Rhododendrons require acidic conditions to thrive.

With its impressive flower trusses, unusual colouring and handsome evergreen foliage, Rhododendron ‘Horizon Monarch’ makes a superb spring focal point for an acid-loving garden.
