Agapanthus ‘Blue Triumphator’, commonly known as African Lily, is a striking flowering perennial grown for its tall stems and impressive rounded heads of blue to violet-blue flowers. It is an excellent choice for adding height and architectural interest to flower borders, gravel gardens, containers and patio planting.
This clump-forming, deciduous perennial produces strap-shaped green leaves, with sturdy upright stems rising above the foliage in summer. These are topped with rounded umbels of trumpet-shaped blue to violet-blue flowers, creating a bold display from mid to late summer.
Growing to approximately 80–100cm tall, ‘Blue Triumphator’ works particularly well towards the back or middle of a sunny border, where its upright habit provides height and structure. It also makes an excellent feature plant in a large container.
Agapanthus prefers a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil. It is particularly effective planted in groups, where the blue flowers create a strong summer display, and the blooms are also attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.
