Rhododendron ‘Marcel Menard’

Rhododendron ‘Marcel Menard’ is a medium-sized evergreen shrub valued for its attractive foliage and abundant display of richly coloured flowers. It is an excellent choice for mixed borders, woodland-style gardens, containers and specimen planting.

The plant forms a neat, bushy shape with small, recurved green leaves, providing year-round colour and structure.

From late May into early June, it produces an abundance of rounded trusses carrying open, funnel-shaped deep violet flowers. Each bloom features distinctive yellow-green to brownish markings towards the centre, creating an attractive contrast and adding depth to the rich flower colour.

Its manageable size and generous flower display make ‘Marcel Menard’ a versatile choice for mixed borders and acid-loving planting schemes, where it can provide a striking focal point in late spring.

Plant in partial shade in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Ericaceous compost is required when planting, particularly in containers or where the existing soil is not naturally acidic. Avoid alkaline or lime-rich soils, as Rhododendrons require acidic conditions to thrive.

With its deep violet flowers, distinctive markings and evergreen foliage, Rhododendron ‘Marcel Menard’ is an excellent choice for adding rich colour and seasonal interest to an acid-loving garden.
