Azalea ‘Madame Van Hecke’ is a compact, upright evergreen flowering shrub valued for its abundant late-spring flowers and year-round foliage. It is a versatile choice for smaller gardens, flower borders, woodland gardens, Japanese-style planting and containers.
This neat Azalea produces small, ovate leaves that emerge bright green in spring before maturing to dark green, providing an attractive evergreen backdrop throughout the year. In late spring, the plant is covered with masses of delicate rose-pink flowers, creating a beautiful display of colour.
Growing to approximately 90cm in height, with a relatively upright habit, ‘Madame Van Hecke’ is particularly well suited to the front or middle of borders, where its compact size makes it easy to incorporate into mixed planting schemes.
Plant in acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Azaleas require acidic conditions to thrive and are not suitable for alkaline or chalky soils. They also perform particularly well in sheltered woodland-style settings.
Its combination of evergreen foliage, compact growth and abundant pink spring flowers makes ‘Madame Van Hecke’ an excellent choice for adding year-round structure and seasonal colour to the garden.
