Cotoneaster x watereri

Cotoneaster × watereri is a vigorous, evergreen or semi-evergreen ornamental tree or large shrub valued for its glossy dark green foliage, summer flowers and abundant red berries. It is an excellent choice for specimen planting, larger gardens, screening and wildlife-friendly planting.

It develops a strong, upright to spreading habit with dark green leaves that provide useful structure throughout much of the year. In summer, it produces clusters of large white flowers, creating a bright display against the foliage.

The flowers are followed by an abundance of bright red berries, which provide excellent autumn and winter interest and are an important food source for birds.

Growing to approximately 4–6 metres in height, depending on conditions and how it is trained, it is best suited to larger gardens and open planting areas. It can be grown as a feature tree or large shrub, making it a versatile addition to mixed borders and landscape schemes.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. Its combination of evergreen foliage, white flowers and red berries provides multi-season interest, while the flowers also attract bees and other pollinating insects.
