Prunus serrula ‘Tibetica’, commonly known as Tibetan Cherry, is an attractive deciduous ornamental tree valued particularly for its beautiful, glossy copper-brown bark. It is an excellent choice for specimen planting, lawns, smaller gardens and mixed borders, where its distinctive trunk can be appreciated throughout the year.
The tree develops a naturally rounded crown, with smooth, shining coppery-brown bark on the young trunk and branches. The bark becomes one of its most striking features as the tree matures, providing colour and interest even during the winter months when the tree is bare.
In spring, small clusters of delicate bowl-shaped white flowers appear amongst the fresh green foliage, adding a soft contrast to the darker bark.
Its rounded habit and distinctive bark make ‘Tibetica’ particularly effective as a feature or specimen tree, especially when planted where there is space to view the trunk and branches from several angles.
Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. With its attractive spring blossom and exceptional coppery bark, Tibetan Cherry provides year-round interest and makes a striking addition to the garden.
