Vinca Major Variegata (Variegated Periwinkle)

Vinca major ‘Variegata’, commonly known as Variegated Periwinkle, is an attractive evergreen sub-shrub valued for its colourful foliage and long flowering season. It is an excellent choice for ground cover, shady borders, woodland gardens, containers and trailing over walls.

The plant forms a clump of upright, leafy flowering stems alongside long, trailing stems which root as they spread, allowing it to gradually create effective ground cover. Its attractive ovate green leaves are edged with cream, providing year-round colour and brightening shadier areas of the garden.

From spring through to autumn, the plant produces large violet-blue flowers, around 4–5cm across, creating a long-lasting display amongst the variegated foliage.

Its spreading habit makes ‘Variegata’ particularly useful for covering banks, borders and difficult areas, while the cream-edged leaves provide interest even when the plant is not in flower.

Plant in partial shade or shade in moist, well-drained soil. Once established, it is a reliable, low-maintenance ground cover plant.

With its evergreen variegated foliage, spreading habit and long flowering period, Vinca major ‘Variegata’ is a versatile choice for adding colour, coverage and seasonal interest to the garden.
