Rhododendron ‘Ponticum Graziella’

Rhododendron ponticum is a dense, bushy evergreen shrub valued for its attractive foliage and abundant display of purple spring flowers. It is an excellent choice for woodland-style gardens, mixed borders and larger planting schemes.

It develops a densely branched habit with attractive, leathery dark green oval leaves, providing reliable colour and structure throughout the year.

In spring, the branches are covered with numerous rounded trusses, each carrying around 10–15 funnel-shaped purple flowers. The abundant blooms create an impressive display amongst the evergreen foliage and provide a valuable source of nectar for pollinating insects.

Rhododendron ponticum can develop into a substantial shrub, making it best suited to larger garden settings where it has room to establish and grow naturally.

Plant in partial shade in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Ericaceous compost is recommended when planting, particularly where the existing soil is not naturally acidic. Avoid alkaline or lime-rich soils, as Rhododendrons require acidic conditions to thrive.
