Rhododendron ‘Gold Flimmer’ is a slow-growing evergreen shrub valued for its unusual variegated foliage and attractive spring flowers. It is an excellent choice for mixed borders, woodland-style gardens, containers and specimen planting.
Growing to approximately 2 metres in height, it forms a neat, bushy shape with dark green, narrowly oval leaves. Each leaf features a distinctive central splash of yellow, creating an eye-catching contrast and providing year-round colour and interest even when the plant is not in flower.
In late spring and early summer, small trusses of purplish-pink, funnel-shaped flowers appear amongst the foliage. The clustered blooms provide a beautiful seasonal display and add further colour to the striking evergreen foliage.
Its slow growth and attractive variegation make ‘Gold Flimmer’ particularly useful as a feature shrub or specimen plant, while it also works well alongside other acid-loving plants.
Plant in partial shade in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Ericaceous compost is recommended when planting, particularly in containers or where the existing soil is not naturally acidic. Avoid alkaline or lime-rich soils, as Rhododendrons require acidic conditions to thrive.
With its distinctive yellow-marked foliage and colourful spring flowers, Rhododendron ‘Gold Flimmer’ is a beautiful choice for adding year-round interest and seasonal colour to an acid-loving garden.
