Griselinia Littoralis (New Zealand Broadleaf)

Griselinia littoralis, commonly known as New Zealand Broadleaf, is a fast-growing, dense evergreen shrub that is particularly popular for hedging, screening and coastal gardens. Its year-round foliage makes it an excellent choice where privacy and structure are required.

It forms a naturally bushy, upright shape with attractive broad, oval, light green leaves. The dense foliage provides an effective evergreen screen throughout the year and responds well to regular trimming, making it ideal for creating a neat, formal hedge.

Griselinia littoralis can reach approximately 3–5 metres in height and spread if left untrimmed, but it can easily be maintained at a more manageable height as a hedge. It is particularly useful for boundary hedging, privacy screening and windbreaks.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. It is relatively tolerant of exposed and coastal conditions, although a sheltered position is preferable in colder areas.

Its dense evergreen growth and attractive foliage make Griselinia a reliable choice for year-round hedging and screening, particularly in milder parts of the UK.
