Rhododendron ‘Nova Zembla’

Rhododendron ‘Nova Zembla’ is a compact evergreen shrub valued for its dark green foliage and spectacular display of bright red spring flowers. It is an excellent choice for mixed borders, woodland-style gardens, containers and specimen planting.

Growing to a maximum height of approximately 1.75 metres, ‘Nova Zembla’ develops a neat, bushy habit with attractive dark green evergreen leaves, providing reliable colour and structure throughout the year.

In spring, the plant produces abundant clusters of striking bright deep red, trumpet-shaped flowers. The vibrant blooms create a dramatic contrast against the dark evergreen foliage, making this a particularly eye-catching Rhododendron.

Its compact size makes ‘Nova Zembla’ a versatile choice for medium-sized borders and smaller garden spaces, while its bold flowers provide a strong focal point in spring.

Plant in partial shade in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Ericaceous compost should be used when planting, particularly in containers or where the existing soil is not naturally acidic. Avoid alkaline or lime-rich soils, as Rhododendrons require acidic conditions to thrive.

With its compact habit, evergreen foliage and vivid red spring flowers, Rhododendron ‘Nova Zembla’ is a striking choice for adding colour and year-round structure to an acid-loving garden.
