Lavandula x Intermedia ‘Grosso’

Lavandula × intermedia ‘Grosso’, commonly known as Lavandin, is a vigorous, evergreen shrub valued for its long flower stems, aromatic foliage and abundant deep violet-blue flowers. It is an excellent choice for borders, informal hedging, cottage gardens, containers and wildlife-friendly planting.

‘Grosso’ develops a bushy, upright habit, reaching approximately 60–90cm in height, with narrow, aromatic grey-green foliage that provides attractive evergreen structure.

In summer, it produces long stems topped with highly fragrant deep violet-blue flower heads, creating an impressive display above the silvery foliage. The long flower stems also make this variety particularly useful for cutting and drying.

Its larger size makes ‘Grosso’ ideal for planting in groups within borders or creating a fragrant informal hedge. It also works well alongside ornamental grasses and other drought-tolerant plants.

Plant in full sun and very well-drained soil, avoiding heavy or waterlogged conditions. Pruning after flowering helps maintain a compact shape and encourages healthy new growth.

The highly aromatic flowers are especially attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, making ‘Grosso’ a valuable addition to a wildlife-friendly garden.
