Echinacea Purpurea ‘Rubinstern’

£5.00

Echinacea purpurea ‘Rubinstern’, commonly known as Coneflower, is a striking, upright flowering perennial valued for its large ruby-red flowers and long flowering season. It is an excellent choice for flower borders, cottage gardens, prairie-style planting and wildlife-friendly gardens.

The plant forms an upright clump of attractive oval green leaves, with sturdy stems reaching approximately 90cm in height. From late summer into autumn, it produces large, daisy-like flowerheads up to around 12cm across, with vibrant ruby-red petals spreading horizontally around a prominent orange-brown central cone.

Its strong upright habit and late flowering period make it particularly useful for adding height and colour to the middle or back of a flower border, especially when many earlier-flowering perennials have finished.

Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Echinacea is a hardy and relatively low-maintenance perennial once established and works particularly well planted in groups amongst ornamental grasses and other late-flowering perennials.

The flowers are highly attractive to bees and butterflies, while the prominent seedheads can provide food for birds and remain attractive into autumn and winter if left standing.
