Digitalis lutea, commonly known as Yellow Foxglove, is a graceful, clump-forming herbaceous perennial valued for its delicate yellow flower spires and long flowering period. It is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, woodland planting, shaded borders and wildlife-friendly gardens.
The plant forms a neat clump of narrowly oval, mid-green glossy leaves. From summer, upright leafy stems carry dense spires of soft yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers, each reaching around 3cm long. The flowers are produced over a long period, providing reliable colour through the summer months.
Growing to approximately 60cm in height, Digitalis lutea is well suited to the middle or front of a border, and its upright flower spikes work particularly well amongst lower-growing perennials and informal planting.
Plant in partial shade or full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. It is a hardy and relatively easy-to-grow perennial, making it particularly useful for woodland-style and cottage garden planting.
The tubular flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, making Yellow Foxglove a valuable addition to a wildlife-friendly garden.
Please note: Digitalis is toxic if eaten.
