Salix caprea ‘Pendula’, commonly known as Kilmarnock Willow, is a charming, compact deciduous tree with a distinctive weeping habit. It is an excellent choice for smaller gardens, lawns, patios, courtyards and specimen planting.
This top-grafted willow forms a stiffly weeping crown, with slender yellowish branches cascading downwards from the grafted stem. Its attractive ovate green leaves provide a fresh backdrop during the growing season.
In spring, the bare branches produce large, soft grey catkins, which open to reveal prominent yellow anthers, creating an attractive early-season display and providing an important source of pollen for bees and other pollinating insects.
Its compact size and graceful cascading form make ‘Pendula’ particularly effective as a feature or specimen tree, especially when planted where its weeping branches can be fully appreciated.
Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. With its distinctive weeping shape and attractive spring catkins, Kilmarnock Willow is a lovely choice for adding character and seasonal interest to smaller gardens.
