Malus ‘Profusion’

Malus ‘Profusion’, commonly known as a Crab Apple, is an attractive spreading deciduous ornamental tree valued for its colourful foliage, deep pink-purple blossom and dark autumn fruit. It is an excellent choice for smaller gardens, lawns, mixed borders and wildlife-friendly planting.

The tree develops a broad, spreading crown with young leaves emerging in rich purple shades, gradually maturing to bronze-green as the season progresses. In spring, clusters of purple-pink flowers create a striking display against the darker foliage.

The flowers are followed by small deep purple-red fruits, which develop in autumn and provide valuable seasonal colour. The fruit can also provide food for birds, while the spring blossom is attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.

Growing to approximately 4–6 metres in height, ‘Profusion’ makes an excellent feature or specimen tree, particularly where its colourful foliage and blossom can be appreciated throughout the seasons.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. With its combination of unusual foliage, colourful flowers and autumn fruit, Malus ‘Profusion’ provides long-lasting seasonal interest in the garden.
