Prunus ‘Canada Red’

Prunus ‘Canada Red’ is a hardy, fast-growing deciduous ornamental tree valued for its dramatic changing foliage, fragrant spring blossom and strong upright form. It is an excellent choice for lawns, larger gardens, avenues and specimen planting.

The leaves emerge bright green in spring, gradually changing to a rich purple-red by early summer before developing vibrant red tones in autumn. This changing foliage provides colour and interest across the growing season.

In May, clusters of small, fragrant white flowers appear amongst the foliage, creating an attractive contrast with the developing leaves. The blossom also provides a valuable source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.

Its vigorous growth makes ‘Canada Red’ particularly effective as a feature or specimen tree, where its changing foliage can provide a strong focal point throughout the year.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. With its fast growth, fragrant spring flowers and striking foliage colour, Prunus ‘Canada Red’ is a versatile choice for adding seasonal colour and structure to the garden.
