Magnolia Stellata ‘Royal Star’ (Star Magnolia)

Magnolia stellata ‘Royal Star’ is a compact, rounded deciduous shrub or small tree valued for its spectacular early spring flowers. It is an excellent choice for smaller gardens, mixed borders, courtyards and specimen planting.

‘Royal Star’ develops a naturally rounded habit, reaching approximately 3 metres in height and spread, making it a manageable size for a wide range of gardens.

In early spring, attractive pale pink buds open to reveal large, elegant white flowers up to around 12cm across. Each flower can have up to 30 narrow tepals, creating a full, star-like appearance and providing a striking display before the leaves emerge.

Its compact size makes it particularly useful as a feature shrub or small specimen tree, where the early spring flowers can be enjoyed up close.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. A sheltered position is ideal to help protect the early flowers from strong winds and late frosts.

With its compact habit and abundance of large white spring flowers, Magnolia ‘Royal Star’ is an excellent choice for adding early-season colour and interest to smaller gardens.
