Betula pendula ‘Youngii’, commonly known as Young’s Weeping Birch, is a small, graceful ornamental and specimen tree with an elegant weeping habit. Its distinctive shape makes it an excellent choice for smaller gardens, lawns, borders and feature planting.
This attractive deciduous tree forms a rounded, dome-shaped crown with arching branches that gently weep towards the ground, creating a natural umbrella-like shape. The fresh green, ovate leaves provide a light, airy appearance through spring and summer before turning bright yellow in autumn.
Growing to approximately 3–5 metres in height, with a similar spread depending on how it is trained and grafted, ‘Youngii’ is a useful choice where a large tree would be unsuitable. It works particularly well as a specimen or focal-point tree, where its distinctive weeping form can be appreciated.
The attractive silver-white bark provides additional winter interest, making this a tree with appeal throughout the year.
Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. Its compact size and graceful form make it particularly effective in smaller gardens, lawns and formal or informal planting schemes.
