Ligustrum Ovalifolium ‘Aureum’ (Variegated Privet)

Ligustrum ovalifolium ‘Aureum’, commonly known as Golden or Variegated Privet, is a dense, upright evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub valued for its striking variegated foliage. It is an excellent choice for hedging, screening, formal planting and mixed borders.

The glossy green leaves are edged and splashed with attractive creamy-white to bright golden-yellow markings, providing colour and interest throughout the year. Its dense, upright growth makes it particularly effective for creating a neat, colourful hedge or screen.

Small clusters of dull white flowers are produced in summer, followed by small, glossy black berries later in the season. The flowers can provide a useful source of nectar for pollinating insects, while the berries can be attractive to birds.

‘Aureum’ can reach approximately 2–3 metres in height if left untrimmed, but it responds very well to regular clipping and can be maintained at a range of heights as a formal hedge.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. Its dense growth, attractive variegation and tolerance of regular pruning make it a versatile choice for evergreen hedging and garden screening.
