Sorbus aucuparia, commonly known as Mountain Ash or Rowan, is a versatile deciduous native tree valued for its elegant form, attractive foliage, spring blossom and colourful autumn berries. It is an excellent choice for smaller gardens, lawns, woodland planting, wildlife gardens and naturalistic landscapes.

The tree develops a broadly conical to rounded crown, with pinnate leaves made up of mid to dark green leaflets. In autumn, the foliage turns attractive shades of red and yellow, creating a colourful seasonal display.

In late spring, flat clusters of delicate white flowers appear amongst the fresh foliage. These are followed in early autumn by abundant clusters of orange-red berries, which provide a valuable food source for birds and other wildlife.

As a native British tree, Rowan is particularly valuable in wildlife-friendly gardens, providing food and shelter for a range of species while also offering excellent seasonal interest.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Hardy and adaptable, Sorbus aucuparia is a reliable choice for adding spring blossom, autumn colour and bright berries to the garden.
