Sorbus aria ‘Asplenifolia’, commonly known as Cut-leaved Whitebeam, is a medium-sized deciduous ornamental tree valued for its finely divided foliage, white spring flowers and bright scarlet berries. It is an excellent choice for lawns, mixed borders, larger gardens and specimen planting.
The tree develops an attractive, upright to rounded habit with unusual pinnate leaves, each leaflet further divided into fine lobes, giving the foliage a delicate, fern-like appearance. This distinctive leaf shape adds excellent texture and interest throughout the growing season.
In spring, clusters of white flowers appear amongst the fresh foliage, creating an attractive display and providing nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.
The flowers are followed by striking scarlet berries in early autumn, providing a vivid splash of colour later in the year and adding further seasonal interest.
Its medium-sized habit and unusual foliage make ‘Asplenifolia’ particularly effective as a feature or specimen tree, where its distinctive leaves and colourful autumn fruit can be fully appreciated.
Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. With its finely divided foliage, white spring blossom and bright scarlet berries, Sorbus aria ‘Asplenifolia’ is a beautiful choice for adding texture, colour and seasonal interest to the garden.
