Picea omorika, commonly known as Serbian Spruce, is an elegant evergreen conifer valued for its slender, narrowly conical shape and attractive two-tone foliage. It is an excellent choice for specimen planting, lawns, larger gardens, woodland planting and landscape schemes.
The tree develops a distinctive graceful, narrow form, making it useful where height and structure are required without taking up as much space as many broader conifers. Its dark green needles are whitish beneath, creating an attractive contrast that is particularly noticeable on the drooping sprays of foliage.
The branches curve gently upwards at the tips, giving the tree a refined and slightly architectural appearance. As an evergreen, it provides year-round colour and structure, making it an attractive feature throughout all seasons.
Serbian Spruce can eventually reach approximately 15–20 metres in height, so it is best suited to larger gardens and open spaces where it has room to develop.
Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Hardy and adaptable, Serbian Spruce is particularly effective as a specimen or feature tree, where its slender silhouette can be fully appreciated.
