Photinia x Fraseri ‘Red Robin’

Photinia × fraseri ‘Red Robin’, commonly known as Red Robin, is a popular evergreen shrub or small tree valued for its brilliant red young foliage and dense, upright habit. It is an excellent choice for hedging, screening, mixed borders and specimen planting.

The plant develops an erect habit and can reach approximately 5–6 metres in height if left unpruned. Its glossy, elliptic leaves can grow up to around 10cm long, emerging a striking bright red before gradually turning dark green as they mature.

If left unpruned, clusters of small creamy-white flowers appear in spring, adding further seasonal interest and attracting bees and other pollinating insects.

‘Red Robin’ responds very well to regular pruning, which encourages fresh flushes of vibrant red young foliage and helps maintain a dense, bushy hedge or screen. It can also be grown as a feature shrub or trained into a small tree.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. A hardy and versatile evergreen, ‘Red Robin’ is particularly effective for creating colourful privacy hedging and year-round structure in the garden.
