Buxus sempervirens, commonly known as Box, is a slow-growing, evergreen hedging and topiary plant prized for its small leaves, dense growth and ability to be clipped into precise shapes. It is an excellent choice for formal gardens, low hedges, edging, knot gardens and topiary.
Its small, glossy green leaves form a naturally tight and compact habit, creating a dense hedge that can be easily trimmed and maintained at the desired height and shape.
Box is particularly well suited to low formal hedging, defining pathways and borders, or creating structured planting within traditional and contemporary gardens. Its evergreen foliage provides year-round structure and colour.
It can also be trained into a wide range of topiary shapes, making it a versatile plant for adding formal structure and architectural interest to the garden.
Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. Once established, Box is hardy and long-lived, making it a popular choice for formal hedging and topiary.
