Pinus Radiata (Monterey pine)

Pinus radiata, commonly known as Monterey Pine, is a vigorous, large evergreen conifer valued for its dense foliage and broad, rounded crown. It is an excellent choice for larger gardens, woodland planting, shelterbelts and landscape schemes.

The tree develops a strong, upright form, gradually developing a broad, rounded crown as it matures. Its dense dark green needles provide year-round colour and structure, creating an attractive backdrop for other planting.

It produces distinctive conical to ovoid cones, which add further interest to the tree and can remain on the branches for several seasons.

Monterey Pine can become a large tree, making it best suited to larger gardens and open spaces where it has plenty of room to develop. Its vigorous growth also makes it useful for screening and shelter planting.

Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. A hardy and vigorous conifer in suitable conditions, Pinus radiata is particularly effective as a large evergreen specimen or landscape tree, providing strong structure and year-round foliage.
