planting tips & tricks

Autumn is the best time to plant! Planting now means healthier, stronger plants and the roots have time to get established before spring. While the soil is now moist, it means less maintenance for you, no need for constant watering.

Here are a few simple tips to make the most of the season:

Right Plant, Right Spot – think about sunlight, shelter, and soil to give each plant the conditions it loves. Measure out your spacings before you start!

Prepare a good planting hole, wider than the root ball or pot, to give roots room to spread. Although, don’t plant too deep! Mix in some compost to give plants the best start.

Water Well, even in autumn, plants need a thorough soak after planting to help them establish. And a layer of bark or mulch will help lock in moisture and keep weeds down.

For any larger trees or hedging, we recommend using a stake and tie to keep the plant secure. This helps prevent movement in the wind, allowing new roots to establish without being disturbed. A steady plant means stronger, healthier growth.
